From AIPAD Exposure:

A different city is the focus of Amos Badertscher: Baltimore – City of Lost Angels. Badertscher, a self-taught photographer who died this past July at the age of 86, made portraits of people he met in nightclubs and on the streets of Baltimore, taking extensive oral histories of his subjects. He then wrote about his models in the margins of his photographs, drawing from those conversations. Badertscher focused on the underground culture of Baltimore, particularly LGBTQ culture, making portraits and nudes of drag queens and hustlers, friends and lovers. Both exhibitions are on view at CLAMP through November 4. A retrospective of Badertscher’s work is also on view in Baltimore at Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, through December 15.
