From Adam Lehrer’s review for Forbes:

Morrisroe, who succumbed to AIDS in 1989, is affiliated with the ‘Boston School’ of photographers, or photographers who attended School of the Museum of Fine Arts between the 1970s and 1980s: Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Nan Goldin, David Armstrong, and Jack Pierson among them. Of those photographers, Morrisroe shares more in common with Goldin and Armstrong than the others. In all of their work, you will find themes related to queerness and notions of the outsider as well as photographic renderings of New York City’s art world and musical sub-cultures, not to mention a lyrical confessional aspects inherent to the bodies of work.
