Mark Beard’s alter ego Hippolyte-Alexandre Michallon was Bruce Sargeant’s teacher and best known for his historical animal paintings.
MarkBeard’s alter ego Edith Thayer Cromwell was an early 20th-century avant-garde painter known for her radical use of color and Expressionist painting style.
Mark Beard’s alter ego Brechtholdt Streeruwitz was a German Expressionist who studied in the Bauhaus. His arch rival was Bruce Sargeant.

ClampArt’s exhibit “Bruce Sargeant (1898-1938): Private Paintings”—curated by New York artist Mark Beard (Bruce Sargeant’s great nephew).
“The Lost Murals” showcases large-scale canvases by Bruce Sargeant (Mark Beard) that have not been seen for many years, mostly depicting athletic and muscular young men.
An exhibition of canvases by Bruce Sargeant (Mark Beard) portraying his young models in various private settings; to quasi-public spaces; on to the field and in the great outdoors.
“Alter Egos” at ClampArt showcases Mark Beard’s first five alter egos, alongside paintings by Beard’s newest personalities.
