Like our first feature, many of the photographers below are acknowledged for being “the first.” Nadine Ijewere, for example, broke ground as the first woman of color to shoot covers for British and American Vogue, and Tsuneko Sasamoto, in the early 1900s was the first (acknowledged) Japanese woman photojournalist.
