From Trey Speegle’s post on WorldOfWonder.net:

The Hulu movie Fire Island is getting great buzz as the world focuses on the history of the famed summer destination.

And next month the Fire Island Pines Historical Society is presenting Souvenirs Fire Island 1970s: The Photography of Meryl Meisler, at the Ice Palace Resort, an island staple since the 50s.

Meisler grew up in the 50s & the 60s on North Massapequa, Long Island. Souvenirs Fire Island 1970 will be the first exhibition dedicated to her FI photos and her first solo show ever on Long Island.

Partying at Studio 54 in 1977, Meryl met a trans woman named Alexis, through whom she met Barnett, a NYC beautician with a summer home in Cherry Grove. Fortunately, Meryl brought her camera and captured the sexy, free-spirited post-Stonewall, pre-AIDS summers on Cherry Grove and The Pines.

Some images in the exhibit have never been published nor seen before. On Fire Island Souvenir Day, July 9th, Meryl will be present for a book signing from 5 – 7PM
