The esthete James Bidgood, photographer and director of the iconic queer film “Pink Narcissus” , which strongly influenced the art of Pierre & Gilles and David La Chapelle, passed away yesterday, January 31, at the age of 88.
James Bidgood, a cult artist of the queer and underground community from the 1970s onwards, passed away yesterday; with his hyper colored and transgressive gaze he has always shown male bodies and homosexual desire without shame and without fear, influencing a mass of artists in the years to come, above all Pierre & Gilles, David La Chapelle and Rainer Werner Fassbinder and his Querelle de Brest , an iconic queer film from 1982.
