From Speak to Dave:

Meryl Meisler captured the remains of a neighborhood that had once belonged to a vibrant Puerto Rican community. These photographs will take you to where the original Bushwick used to be. Not what it was like 10 years ago — but where it all began. Meryl documented a tumultuous time in NYC history, where the rise of arson, crime, crack, and AIDS had taken over this city. A very different period of time where New York was suffering politically and going through a fiscal crisis. Not what you picture NYC to be like today.
