From his cramped Hell’s Kitchen tenement, photographer and director James Bidgood made magic, staging erotic scenes with beautiful young men in the glow of pink lighting. Bidgood was unapologetically gay before Stonewall blew the door down in 1969, but his queer art and filmmaking didn’t receive a spotlight until the 1990s.
