Tuinal became popular in the underground music and arts scenes in urban America as well as in the gay discotheques. American poet Jim Carroll is reputed to be the voice heard asking Brigid Polk about the availability of Tuinals between songs on The Velvet Underground’s “Live at Max’s Kansas City” album.
Michael Vernaglia was an accomplished illustrator and artist throughout the 1970s. He is perhaps best known for designing the logo and first poster for The Saint nightclub. Vernaglia was also an escort who advertised in the “Advocate” personals under the non de guerre Mine Scatlover. Vernaglia was an early casualty of the rapidly unfolding microbiological disaster.
