From Matthew Terrell’s review of the exhibition “Art AIDS America,” on view at the Zuckerman Museum of Art, for for Arts ATL:
This is an exhibition that showcases the important role art can play not only in education but in cultural memory and activism.
“Art AIDS America” provides a thorough overview of three decades of artistic response to the epidemic—especially with Zuckerman’s “interjections.” The work moves beyond simple, personal depictions of living with AIDS, juggling art-world issues such as minimalism, conceptual art, activism and memorial art simultaneously.
