Stephen Wilkes’ photographs create something that is not possible for the eye. They are time-lapse (of) many images, combined in one surreally beautiful substrate; the Essence of a period of up to 15 hours.

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s discovery of Manhattan, Joshua Lutz and three other New York photographers were commissioned to shoot images of Amsterdam. Lutz decided to focus his work on the outskirts of the city, responding to the idea of borders.
From PDN:
Based as we are in a city of perpetual renewal (New York City), the sight of construction projects is nothing new to us. Yet through Brian Finke’s new book, succinctly titled “Construction,” we see the craft of building large edifices in a way we never can through the cracks in the plywood barriers that commonly protect construction areas. Finke’s look is all-access, and his brightly lit, almost hyper-real images make the workers and the work quite beautiful.

From Emily Anne Epstein’s review of Michael Massaia’s series “Afterlife” for the Daily Mail:
Long after the thrill-seekers, popcorn-chompers and fire-eaters have gone home for the night, photographer Michael Massaia sneaks into the amusement parks that line the Jersey Shore to capture the remains of the sleeping boardwalks.
A New Jersey native, Mr Massaia was always fascinated by the hustle and bustle of the cities by the seashore, mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the people that populated the picturesque locales.
‘Growing up in New Jersey, most of my time was spent along its coastline. At night I would watch both the locals and tourists alike walk the boardwalk, get into fights, and ride the rides I was always too afraid to go on,’ the photographer said.
‘The environment was always on the brink of becoming completely unhinged, and I wanted nothing more than to be a part of it.’
Ultimately, Mr Massaia admits, he never became more than a spectator, though that did not stop him from capturing the sights and sounds of the boardwalk as he envisioned them.

From Alison Nastasi’s post for Flavorwire:
Michael Massaia grew up in New Jersey, and like many East Coast kids, spent his time hanging out at the shore. The photographer tapped into the electrifying and often frightening moments of his youth in his photo series “Afterlife.” “At night I would watch both the locals and tourists alike walk the boardwalk, get into fights, and ride the rides I was always too afraid to go on. The environment was always on the brink of becoming completely unhinged, and I wanted nothing more than to be a part of it (but I ultimately never made it beyond a spectator),” he writes on his website.
Ten years after leaving the area, Massaia returned to find his feelings hadn’t changed, and he put the unattainable park attractions in pictures. The artist’s ghostly, black and white images are handmade platinum prints and evoke a moment frozen in time. See more of Massaia’s haunting boardwalk photos in our gallery.
