Mikhael Subotzky (b. 1981, Cape Town) is a Johannesburg-based artist whose practice spans photography, film, video, installation, and collage. A member of Magnum Photos, Subotzky is acclaimed for projects such as Beaufort West and Ponte City (with Patrick Waterhouse), which probe themes of social inequality, incarceration, and the politics of representation in contemporary South Africa. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major collections including MoMA, Tate, and the Centre Pompidou, earning him awards such as the Oskar Barnack Award and the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize.
