Sue Williams (b. 1945, Greenville, South Carolina) is an American painter whose work addresses themes of feminism, violence, and the female experience through bold, often figurative imagery. Her paintings confront issues such as gender, power, and trauma with a raw, confrontational style that combines abstraction and representation. Williams earned a BFA from the University of South Carolina and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. She has exhibited widely in institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Her work is included in major public collections such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Modern.
