Alfred Eisenstaedt, Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe

Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898–1995) was a pioneering German-born American photojournalist, best known for his work with Life magazine. After emigrating to the United States in 1935, he became one of the publication’s first staff photographers. Eisenstaedt’s work was defined by a candid and spontaneous style, capturing moments of human experience with a small 35mm camera and natural light. His legacy includes iconic images such as “V-J Day in Times Square” (1945), and more than 90 of his photographs were featured on the cover of Life. He was a master portraitist who photographed figures like Marilyn Monroe and Winston Churchill, and was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1989.
