ARTIST

Lorna Simpson is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores identity, race, and gender through photography, collage, video, and painting. Rising to prominence in the 1980s with her photo-text works, she challenged conventional narratives around representation and the Black female body. Her practice has since evolved to include large-scale collages and paintings that recontextualize archival imagery. Simpson’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major museum collections including MoMA, the Whitney, and the Tate.
