ARTIST

Garry Winogrand (1928–1984) was an American street photographer known for his candid images capturing everyday life and social dynamics in mid-20th-century America. His spontaneous, energetic style documented urban scenes, public events, and ordinary people, reflecting postwar culture with an emphasis on movement, gesture, and the complexity of modern life. Winogrand studied at Columbia University and the City College of New York and received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1964. His work has been exhibited widely and is held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography.
