Louise Dahl-Wolfe (1895–1989) was a pioneering American photographer best known for her innovative fashion work at Harper’s Bazaar from the 1930s through the 1950s. Her natural light photography, on-location shoots, and sophisticated sense of composition helped redefine the look of fashion imagery. Dahl-Wolfe also created striking portraits of cultural icons and was instrumental in launching the career of model Lauren Bacall. Her work influenced generations of photographers, including Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, and is held in major museum collections such as MoMA and the Getty.
