From Kel R. Karpinski’d essay for Jump Cut:
The films “Pink Narcissus” (1971) and “Flesh” (1968) both portray gay-for-pay hustlers and their interactions with johns in New York City. Although both of these films are works of fiction, they creatively reflect queer histories of the city and more specifically of Times Square. These films were marketed to gay male audiences and were mostly shown in the porn and arthouse cinemas like those found in Times Square at the time.
