Sarah Brayer is an internationally acclaimed American artist based in Kyoto, Japan, celebrated for her innovative poured washi paperworks. After moving to Japan in 1980 and studying traditional printmaking, Brayer pioneered a unique art form by blending ancient Japanese papermaking techniques with a contemporary vision. Working in the historic village of Echizen, she creates large-scale, often celestial-themed pieces that are both serene and meditative. As the only Western artist to work there continuously, her art has been recognized with prestigious awards and is held in major collections worldwide, including the British Museum and the Smithsonian.
