Brice Marden (1938–2023) was an American painter celebrated for his subtle explorations of color, surface, and abstraction. Emerging in the 1960s with monochromatic canvases that bridged Minimalism and Abstract Expressionism, he later developed calligraphic line paintings influenced by Asian aesthetics and nature. His work has been exhibited worldwide and is held in major museum collections, including The Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; and Tate.
