The doll is a portrait of Daniel Egan, who studied dance with Lindsay Kemp in London and was in Kemp’s ensemble of dancers in Derek Jarmon’s 1976 film “Sebastian.” For a couple of years in the early 1980s, Egan was the lover of Douglas Ferguson. At the time Greer Lankton was being represented by Civilian Warfare Gallery in New York. Egan’s natural blond hair was at times dyed purple, blue, or green. Greer Lankton created the doll as an effigy with actual hair clippings from Egan that Ferguson had saved. Lankton gifted the doll to Ferguson when she completed it.
