Lynne Yamamoto (b. 1961, Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American visual artist whose work explores place, memory, and overlooked histories through sculpture and installation. Drawing on poetic uses of material, she investigates cultural narratives and identity, with works examining the symbolism of cherry blossoms in Japan, the colonial history of pineapple cultivation, and class and immigration in early-20th-century Hawaii. Yamamoto earned her B.A. from Evergreen State College and M.A. from New York University. She has exhibited at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art at Philip Morris, the Mattress Factory, and the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, among others. Her work is held in public collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. She is the Jessie Wells Post Professor of Art at Smith College.
