Anderson & Lowe write: “This was photographed on the barrel roof of the gymnasium at the gymnastics school in Denmark. This group of thirty gymnasts toured the world giving demonstrations.
The word ‘bisse’ is Danish. It is a collective word for a group of young men with a slightly tongue-in-cheek disreputable implication.
If memory serves, the gymnasium was actually built by students at the school in the 1930s. There is a strong sense of collective effort in this tradition and in the school. Hence these thirty students were only too happy to climb up on the roof and perform together for us.”
