Slava Mogutin is a New York-based Russian artist. When he was just 21 years of age, Mogutin gained both critical acclaim and official condemnation for his outspoken queer writings and activism in Russia. Confined to nearly three years of house arrest and subjected to increasing tension with the threat of two highly publicized criminal cases, Mogutin fled for the United States and was granted political asylum with the support of Amnesty International and PEN American Center. This asylum became the first to be granted in the US based on homophobic prosecution.
