Barbara Kruger (b. 1945) is an American conceptual artist associated with the Pictures Generation. Best-known for a collage style overlaying text on found black-and-white photographs, Kruger’s phrases often include pronouns such as “you,” “your,” “I,” “we,” and “they,” addressing cultural constructions of power, identity, consumerism, and sexuality. She lives and works in New York and Los Angeles.
