Kim Abeles is a Los Angeles-based artist known for her interdisciplinary work that addresses social and environmental issues. She is most recognized for her “Smog Collectors” series, in which she uses polluted air to create images on various surfaces, visually documenting air quality. Her work, which often incorporates unconventional materials and humor, tackles subjects such as civil rights, feminism, and environmentalism. Abeles has received numerous awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship, and her art is held in public collections around the world. She is also a Professor Emerita at California State University, Northridge.
