Xie, Xiaoze
Los Angeles Public Library (R78.33H, Handel)

Xiaoze Xie was born in 1966 in Guangdong, China and emigrated from the People’s Republic of China in 1992. Xie’s oil paintings bring together serene qualities of traditional still-life painting and photography. From the long tradition of still-life painting, he employs a rich and selected palette to represent books and observations from everyday life. Printed pages represent ideas and beliefs/ ideologies and belief systems. Fascinated by nighttime and the quiet drama of everyday life, Xie presents theatrical light, stage-like spaces, and ambiguous atmosphere and mood. Xie’s work has been widely exhibited in the U.S., Europe, and China and is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Oakland Museum of California.
