Joseph De Martini was born in Mobile, Alabama, but spent most of his life in New York City. He studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League. His first solo show was at the Dorothy Parish Gallery in 1932. De Martini’s paintings are represented in many public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art; Whitney Museum of American Art; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Addison Gallery of American Art; and Walker Art Center.
