ARTIST

Barton Lidice Beneš was an American artist known for his witty and irreverent mixed-media works that often incorporated found objects, currency, and personal artifacts. His practice explored themes of mortality, celebrity, sexuality, and social taboos with a distinctive blend of humor and critique. In the later years of his life, Beneš created work addressing the AIDS crisis, using his own HIV-positive status as both subject and material. His art has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous museum collections. Beneš lived and worked in New York City until his death in 2012.
