Roxanne Lowit (1942–2022) was a New York–based photographer who transformed fashion imagery through her pioneering backstage photographs. Beginning her career as a textile designer, she turned to photography in the late 1970s and quickly became a vital presence at Paris and New York Fashion Weeks. Her candid yet glamorous portraits of designers, supermodels, and cultural icons—including Yves Saint Laurent, Naomi Campbell, and Andy Warhol—defined an insider’s view of fashion’s golden decades. Lowit’s work has been published internationally, featured in campaigns for Dior and Armani, and exhibited in institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
