Laura Rubin began taking photographs of her Lower East Side neighborhood in 1966, and soon thereafter began to shoot portraits of the queer community she embraced, including drag queens and filmmakers such as Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, Mario Montez, and others in the Warhol circle.
