Willam Seward Burroughs (1914-1997) was a postmodern American writer and visual artist, and one of the central authors of the Beat Generation. Born in St. Louis, Burroughs attended Harvard University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Burroughs did not gain recognition as a visual artist until 1987, after which he exhibited his drawings and paintings internationally until the time of his death.
