George Daniell (1911-2002)
Born in Yonkers, Daniell began taking photographs with his folding Kodak camera at a young age. After studying drawing at the Grand Central Art School, Daniell went on to earn a degree from Yale University in 1934. Then, having acquired a Leica camera during a trip to Germany, he began working as a freelance photographer in New York City, shooting pictures for such publications as Life, Time, and Esquire.
Daniell soon became well known for his exceptional portraits of artists, writers, and actors (many of whom were also his personal friends). Indeed, the majority of the artist’s photographic work concentrates on the human figure. Whether executing celebrity portraits or romantic figure studies, Daniell’s images have a “spark and sense of humor that is very human,” remarks admirer Bruce Weber.
An inveterate traveler, Daniell’s wanderlust led him round the globe twice over, and his work chronicles many of the places he was able to see. From the Tyrol to Tangiers and Morocco to Monhegan Island, however, Daniell was consistently drawn back to photographing the people he met along the way.
Eventually retiring in Maine, Daniell turned to painting after a stroke in 1988, setting a goal for himself of one completed artwork per day. He lived to the age of ninety-one, leaving behind a breathtaking body of sophisticated images that reflect the unfolding of the twentieth century.

Janet Delaney (b. 1952)
Janet Delaney is a photographer and educator based in Berkeley, California.
Her projects have received numerous awards, most notably three National Endowment for the Arts Grants. Her work is in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, de Young Museum, Pilara Foundation, the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, the Musée de la Charleroi in Charleroi, Belgium, Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, and the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley. She recently published a book of her San Francisco images from the 1980s titled “South of Market” with Mack Books of London, and is now revisiting this district, camera in hand.
Janet Delaney received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She has taught photography throughout the Bay Area, and for the past fourteen years she has been an adjunct lecturer in Visual Studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

Jason DeMarte
In his artwork Jason DeMarte (b. 1973) explores the use of natural themes in marketing and the influence on consumers. In his series “Utopic,” DeMarte contrasts picturesque portrayals of animals in their natural habitats with overlaid patterns of bold color sampled from advertisements and commercial packaging, awkwardly merging organic and material forms. DeMarte completed his BFA in Photography at Colorado State University (1997) and his MFA in Photography from the University of Oregon (2000). His works are represented in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Los Angeles and the Fort Collins Colorado Historical Museum. DeMarte is currently a tenured faculty member at Eastern Michigan University.
