David Salle (b. 1952) is an American painter, printmaker, and photographer. He lives and works in East Hampton, New York. He earned a BFA and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California, where he studied with artist John Baldessari. His paintings first came to public attention in the early 1980s in New York City. Salle states his intention for his canvases is to eliminate any narrative, though one might attempt to decipher a story from his odd juxtaposition of seemingly random imagery.
