Kushner, Paris Review
Paris Review

Robert Kushner (b. 1949, Pasadena, CA) is a New York–based painter and a founding figure of the Pattern and Decoration movement. Blending floral forms, geometric abstraction, and global textile traditions, his work celebrates beauty and ornament in defiance of minimalism. Kushner has exhibited widely—including the Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and ICA Philadelphia—and created major public commissions such as mosaics for the NYC subway and Raleigh-Durham Airport. His work is held in collections at MoMA, The Met, Tate, and the National Gallery of Art, among others.
