Raphael Soyer (1899–1987) was a Russian-born American painter and printmaker associated with Social Realism. Known for his empathetic depictions of everyday urban life, he often portrayed working-class New Yorkers, women, and fellow artists with intimacy and restraint. His work is represented in major institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
