Michelle Sank (b. 1953, South Africa) is a British-based photographer whose work explores identity, belonging, and the complexities of contemporary youth and subcultures. Having left South Africa in 1978, she has built a career creating intimate, empathetic portraits that merge people with their environments, often focusing on those living at the margins of mainstream society. Sank’s projects have been exhibited internationally and are held in major collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter. In 2024, she was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society.
