From Abby Schreiber’s review for Paper Magazine:

Whether at art openings in Soho or late nights at Area, a familiar presence was documenting the glittery artists, writers and actors who populated downtown New York in the ’80s: photographer Jeannette Montgomery Barron. Having shot everyone from Andy Warhol to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring to Cindy Sherman, Barron’s photos managed to capture some of the art world’s biggest stars during their ascent as well as icons who would not live past the decade. Barron’s work can be seen in a new book, “Scene,” published by powerHouse, and an exhibit at Chelsea’s ClampArt gallery opening tomorrow. Barron will also be present at a book signing tonight at Bookmarc in the West Village (400 Bleecker St.). In the meantime, take a look at portraits of Basquiat, Haring, Willem Dafoe, Cindy Sherman and more, below.
