From the feature on Les Simpson and his photographs in V Magazine:

Les Simpson arrived in New York from Minnesota in the early 1980s. Rather than pursuing a career, he spent much of the decade exploring and enjoying the city’s varied cultural scene. In the late 1980s, he found his niche in the East Village alternative queer scene, where he joined the ranks of NYC’s drag queens as Linda Simpson. Linda would go on to become a nightlife and media sensation.
